Random post bits

Slow Livejournal. Annoying.

Anthrocon preparations. Worries about Artists Alley logistics. Worries about hotel room logistics. Worries about worrying too much.

Househusbanding. Laundry. Cooking. Mowing. Yay.

Job hunting. Shotgunning resumes across the Internet. No nibbles.

Quiet weekend ahead. More posting later.

I’m anthrocon preparing too. I don’t know if I’m going to be the only one working on fursuit track, so I’m trying to come up with stuff that’ll cover it in case it’s only me. I’m going to try to come up with posters and activities. As far as Artist’s Alley, I am going to either bring or ship to you a simple battery megaphone that might possibly help the hearability issue- I’m donating that, I only wish it was better ‘cos it’s not very good- but aim it at the ceiling and the bounce should carry to the far end of the room, I hope.
We should talk about what I can do to support those logistics. I’m already in some mysterious space as far as not (last I heard) being any specific role for AC, but I’ll be in the conbook and am not having to pay for registration. I also need to work latenight pre-con registration and don’t know who will need to know about that- worst comes to worst I’ll show up, as organized as possible, and see how much I can handle.
I’m bringing less tails this year because my CD mastering business is taking over from that to some extent, because I haven’t got time to make another huge inventory, and because I’m going to be running my kitty ass off doing all these other things. I don’t know how this is going to affect the Artist’s Alley tail sales I need to make in order to cover my costs, but I’m letting it crowd out a fair amount of that. If there’s any way I can negotiate something- for instance leaving the table more frequently to check on the Headless Lounge, which I think I’m responsible for- this is probably the time to ask about it. I already expect to be covering the Artist’s Alley early-morning line situation so I should be there for that.
I gotta find out how many people are supposed to fit into the elevators. I’m going to copy out signs to put on every elevator- just like Kage did last year AFTER losing one elevator to overload.
    Good husky 🙂

Hmm. Quite a bunch of stuff here 🙂
First off, the fact that you’re staff but not quite sure where you fit in should be addressed before the convention. I would strongly recommend e-mailing the appropriate department head – SueDeer for fursuit-related stuff, Bennie for Registration stuff. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what role they have you down for. By nailing this down before the convention, that should avoid problems of miscommunication at the con.
Next, Artists Alley. The good news is that since we’re going to be in the same room as the Dealers Room, we’ll have a lot more space. The nice thing that comes with that is the built-in overhead public address system. I very much appreciate the offer of the bullhorn, but I don’t think it will be needed this year.
If you’re going to have a table, it would probably not be a good thing if you had to leave frequently. Unfortunately, we have to enforce all rules equally to everyone with a table, and that includes this one:
The table must be staffed by the artist for the majority of the time the table is held by that artist (We understand that artists, like other attendees, are here to enjoy the convention and need to eat, drink, and, well, you know…). Inquiries will be made if we notice that a table is repeatedly left vacant for long periods of time, or if a substitute is in place for longer than is reasonable, and your table may be given to another artist for whom we had not had room.
I know that rule is kind of vague, but I have to make sure it applies to everyone with a table. Nevertheless, if you talk to me sometime Thursday or Friday morning, we’ll see what we can work out.
The early-morning line situation is covered this year, fortunately. It falls to me as part of my duties as Artists Alley Manager, and it’s probably better that I’m there to answer any questions that may arise. Besides, I’m one of those early-riser freaks, and I’m up at 7 AM anyway. This year we have the rules set in stone: signup begins at 8 AM on Friday, and at 7:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday.
I apologize if it sounds like I’m pushing you away from a lot of the Artists Alley stuff, but I’m the kind of guy that likes to have most of this dealt with before the con, and don’t want to worry about filling in the gaps on the fly at con – that’s a sure way to make me insane 🙂 It sounds like you’ve got a lot of other stuff on your plate, though, and hey – you need to leave yourself some time to have some fun, too!
And finally, as to the elevators: Kage has gone pretty strongly on record about how he expects the elevators to work. He has also mentioned getting elevator wranglers to enforce the load limits and assist crowd control in the lobby.

Yay! 😀 Far be it from me to demand that I have a heavier workload. You just let me know what you need from me, and I’ll do that.
I’m sure I can at least help around the Alley. As for not having a defined position, I’m not inclined to fuss- I’m sure there will be things for me to do, and I’m only concerned with not failing to make good on what I’ve promised to do. One thing that’s weird is I’m not sure how much involvement I’m going to need to have with fursuit programming- I’ve heard nothing, so I’m focusing on what I HAVE been asked to do. Latenight early registration, Summer-Games related suiter activities, headless lounge, and I want to be available for other things if it’s stuff that I only hear about when I show up. I stay pretty organized for AC so I’ll be able to add stuff.
