Score!

Well, that weekend went by fast.

Friday night, we gathered at Thomas and Sherry’s place so me_not_you could scope out their computer and give them advice on what to buy during the Sales Tax Holiday Weekend. That accomplished, we decided to head over to Dakota Grill in Cary for dinner. Lots of good, cheap food, and the guys that own the place are very cool and treat us like regulars. I like that. Afterwards it was over to Silvia’s for tasty gelato (yet again), then home to bed.

Saturday was pretty lazy. We spent the afternoon hanging out and watching some stuff off the TiVo, then Dan took a nap since he wasn’t feeling well. In the evening we went over to me_not_you and wildmouse for tasty grilled chicken and mashed taters and other yummies, as well as the wonderful baked good Janelle had bought the day before. After dinner we introduced them to CatchPhrase and a good time was had by all (and two bottles of wine were sacrificed to the cause!)

Sunday things got interesting. Takaza had mentioned that he heard that Long John Silvers had opened a store in Raleigh – this was a big deal to him since he loveLoveLOVES! their chicken tenders and until now the closest LJS was a good 50 miles away. We drove up to Capital Boulevard (northeast Raleigh) and found the place without any problems. The meal was, well, anticlimactic at best. But Dan satisfied his craving, so that’s good enough. After wards we drove up to Triangle Town Center, where there’s an el-cheapo cell phone accessory store – Dan got a couple of belt clips for his phone and I got a new belt holster for mine, since the old one died in a distressingly short period of time.

We moseyed around the mall for a bit, then Dan got thinking about the new Lion King DVD that’s coming out soon. There’s no Disney Store at TTC, but there is one in Crabtree Valley Mall, only ten miles away. So off we went. Both malls, by the way, were predictably packed as everyone got in on the 7% discount (whoopie) provided by the Sales Tax Holiday. Anyway, as we walked in to Crabtree, who should we run into but Thomas and Sherry! We hung out with them for a while, and went by the Disney Store where Dan pre-ordered The Lion King DVD set as well as a couple of other goodies.

While we were walking around we noticed that the Museum Company was going out of business – everything was being sold on the cheap, including the fixtures. Hmmmm. We went in and talked with some of the clerks (at least one of whom was of the fannish persuasion) and scored some cool stuff for Midwest Furfest: a couple of chrome free-standing sign holders for $25 apiece, and three 12″ plexiglass cubes at a buck-fifty each. I’m not sure what to do with the cubes – maybe use them in the Con Suite as novel potato chip holders, foxish? What the hell, they were cheap.

We took out leave of the mall and Thomas and Sherry and headed back to our place to crash for the night, enjoying a relatively quiet evening. Dan wasn’t feeling well, with a mild fever that’s persisted into today. Not sure what’s up with that – no other symptoms, but we’re keeping an eye on things.

Oh yes, and one very important thing: Congratulations to vileone (aka Rob) and Janet Napier on the birth of Christopher Rowan Napier, 7 pounds, 1 ounce, at 4:30 AM this morning. Yay!

Hrrmmm.. I thought there was a long john silvers on 54 between 55 and davis. But checking the store locator there isn’t one listed for there. I’ll go ask some of my work buds when they come in.

That would be a relatively recent development, but I admit I haven’t been through that way in well over a year. It sure would be more convenient than going waythehellout to Capital Boulevard!
