So, where would I like to live? Well, here’s what FindYourSpot says (link courtesy of J’s Notes):
1. Danbury, Connecticut – Small-Town Charm Near the Big Apple
2. Sheboygan, Wisconsin – Wisconsin’s Jewel on the Lake
3. Hartford, Connecticut – The Insurance Capital
4. Oshkosh-Appleton/Neenah, Wisconsin – The Paper Valley
5. Medford, Oregon – Gateway to the Pacific Northwest
6. Bend, Oregon – Oregon’s Natural Playground
7. Eau Claire, Wisconsin – Clear Water, Clean Living
8. Madison, Wisconsin – Athens Of The Midwest
9. Worcester, Massachusetts – The Heart of the Commonwealth
10. Eugene, Oregon – The Emerald City
11. Corvallis, Oregon – Heart of the Willamette Valley
12. La Crosse, Wisconsin – Jewel of the Upper Mississippi
13. Kenosha, Wisconsin – Middle America at its Best
14. Providence, Rhode Island – New England’s Best Kept Secret
15. Salem, Oregon – The Heart of Oregon
This amuses me because we used to live near Danbury, CT (in Southbury) and from what I know of the city, it’s an economically depressed dump. But hey, maybe things have picked up there over the last few decades…
*snerk*
I just LOVE their comments about th eplaces in Wisconsin…
Kenosha, Middle America at Its Best? Ohplz. The city is turning into a ghetto, the downtown area is almost shot, and the economic outlook ain’t good. Pfah.
I spent the better part of a year… no, let me rephrase that… I spent most of a year in that area, working in Cheshire and living first in a hotel in Waterbury (Motto: “Running from street crime is the best exercise!”) and later in a beige apartment in Southington with a sullen South African and no telephone. The whole area struck me as kind of grim. Granted, I tend to be biased against places I’m sent for work, but I never did find out what people did for fun around there. My own efforts at entertaining myself outside of work hours were mostly limited to:
1) Wandering the mall like a lost soul
2) Playing miniature golf by myself (not recommended)
3) Weeping openly.
When I ran the question of what fun things could be done in the area past one of my coworkers, I was given a description of the best places to procure the services of a prostitute. Ooookaaay…
Nevertheless, just in case you decide to up and move back there, here’s my list of the area’s redeeming qualities:
1)Tasty sandwiches.
2)It isn’t completely flat.
3)Less than a two hour drive to the nearest raccoon-themed minor league baseball team
4)The creepy abandoned Christian amusement park overlooking Waterbury.
Note to Connecticut Department of Tourism: I am available to write ad copy. Rates quite reasonable.
Wow! Five places here in Oregon…
Never been to any of them since none of them are close by, though I hear Corvallis isn’t too bad. Salem is rough, from some of the things I heard about from the yokels ’round here.. Oregon is a beautiful state, it’s just too bad it seems to be perforated from the rest of the country. 😛
What’s all this about Sheboygan?
It was my #1 pick. Frightening. But fun to say. 🙂
And the number one reason why I’m very suspicious of this survey? #4 on my list is…Champaign-Urbana.
