…and speaking of TeeVee, they have a great commentary on Fox’s newest game show/horrifying-spectacle, The Chamber. The funny thing is the same thing happened to me when I went to watch The Simpsons:
So I check Tivo to watch The Simpsons, and it’s been replaced by a
half-hour of something called The Chamber. It appears to be a game show,
but instead of making the questions hard, they torture the contestants.
No, really, actual torture. With screams of pain and everything.
Honestly, watching this thing is an intensely uncomfortable experience
as the camera lingers on the grimaces of the contestants as they try to
remember their parents’ birthdays while strapped down in a chair. They
might as well come into my home and punch me in the face repeatedly.
What a wretched piece of crap. For this they rescheduled The Simpsons?
I was lucky, someone warned me they’d moved The Simpsons. I couldn’t believe how stupid that Chamber show sounded…so I didn’t watch it.
It’s odd, we’re sliding towards where Japan was over a decade ago. I used to watch clips of their gameshows years and years ago…they had people crawling through snake pits, walking on hot coals, stuff like that.
Here, we started off by asking questions, and rewarding the most knowledgeable. Then, we moved into humiliating the contestants (started on cable networks, but then out came Weakest Link). So, now we’ve come to torture.
I guess the next step is The Running Man.
Personally, I plan to give the new ‘Extreme Game Shows’ as much of my life as I have to the Survivor shows. None at all 😛
Though, I do notice that you’re a confessed Survivor addict 😉 *sheepish grin* I just have no interest in Reality TV, though it’s definitely not as bad as Torture TV ;P

Or Series 7: The Contenders. Same concept. (Rigel and I watched it a few weeks ago. The disturbing thing is, this was actually pitched as a reality TV show. The network execs replied with “Could you make it more sexy?”)
See…this has all the aspect that Survivor should have…it would make it intresting. 🙂
Still…this TV based Spanish Inquisition is kinda scary. Not only is it on Fox…it’s on ABC as The Chair.

When I saw this show (which I watch about half of), I thought, “What a idiotic, horrible STUNT.” I was also uncomfortable watching it, listening to the woman contestant in the chair yell, “OW!” repeatedly. And the questions!! They are almost all based on the entertainment-industry. 😛
