Got a voicemail from the doctor. Strep throat culture came back positive.
I’ll be at home all weekend, curled up with a Z-Pack and Hycodan if anyone needs me. And on Monday, I’ll be calling them and findd out why the hell it took three days for them to let me know the culture came back positive.
Ugh! Sorry to hear that. On the one paw you have all weekend to recover. On the other paw, that’s a really crappy way to spend a weekend. Get better soon!
*hug*
Merf…. get better soon, Husky! *hugs*
hope you get better soon sweet husky and why it took 3 days is probably the lab got backed up.Could have been worse though and a HMO refused to cover the test 😉
My recollections on this are old (I was a vet student what, 40 years ago?) but bacterial cultures can take a while to get a positive ID, depending on what they are mixed with and so forth.
Of course, once the culture has blossomed someone still has to read and ID it, which could be part of your delay if there’s a heavy load at the lab just now.
Aw, shit… I had strep three weeks ago. It sucks. Sorry to hear that your sick.
Well at least the drugs will help. Sucks to have step though, got it like 2 times last year… darn family 😛
Z-Pack = good stuff, Maynard. Expensive, but effective.
Get well quick!
Oof. Well, that would explain the cough. My experience with the Z-Pack was that it was good and fast. Good luck, and get well soon! *hug*
Usually, if strep is suspected, the doctor will just start you on the antibiotic. Do you actually mean it took three days to tell you after they got the results or three days to do the culture? The latter isn’t uncommon. Still, anyone you have been in contact with since the symptoms started will probably want to watch for similar ones. Hope you feel better soon. At least it doesn’t mean a painful penicillin injection these days as it did when I was a kid.
Awwww…sorry you’re strepped.
Hope you get well soon!
ooh, that sucks! i’m sorry to hear it. hope the drugs kick in, and you feel better soon…
Awww…feel better soon! *hugs*
Holy! Wow. Get well!
It does, indeed, take that long to get a definitive lab result. Used to be that if strep was even suspected to be the case, a huge dose of penecillin was given and the injection was very painful so I ditto the kudos of the “z pack”! It sounds like you have exposed a whole bunch of people since you continued to go into work during the early, most contagious stage…..ooops! Hope the meds perform as expected.
Clemson takes on NC State today at noon. ABC has it on but I suspect it to be a ‘regional’ b’cast. So far, Tommy’s bunch have failed to live up to expectations so I’m less than excited and expect the worst.
Stay comfy and warm………………
