Wow, what a weekend!
After a week of preparations and a morning of frantic cleaning, by 3 PM or so on Saturday we finally had the house ready for our Housewarming Party. I decided to commemorate that fact by taking the camera out and creating a virtual tour of our new home.
siriuswolfstar and simbalion showed up early, followed shortly after by roho, genet, and steviemaxwell (welcome back, Stevie!). Shortly thereafter followed a slew of other folks, and lots and lots of food, booze, sodas, and more food. For the entree, I made up about ten pounds of stuffed pork roast (see the following entry for this). We started things at about 5 PM and eventually kicked the last few folks out at 2 AM. We had a lot of fun, played games of Fluxx, Apples to Apples, and Lupus in Tabula, packed entirely too many people into our tiny living room, and everyone ate really, really well. Thanks to everyone who attended!
On Sunday, I woke up far too early at 7:30 AM and couldn’t get back to sleep. Unfortunately, the drapes in the master bedroom aren’t nearly as light-blocking as we had hoped, so we’re going to supplement them with some inexpensive blinds from Home Depot or someplace similar, the theory being that since the drapes will usually be closed, it doesn’t much matter what the blinds look like, so long as they block as much light as possible. Anyway, eventually we got everyone up and moving by noon and made the (short) pilgrimage up to Antioch to indulge in breakfast at my favorite diner in the area, Las Vegas. After an excellent meal, we dropped Sirius and Simba off at the train station and spent the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening hanging out at our place and watching TV with Roho and Genet. We caught up on a few episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations”, “Dinner Impossible”, and the first episode of the BBC’s new Robin Hood series (great casting, great sets, crappy modern editing. At least they kept it to only one “You’ve got to be kidding me!” moment). Then, since they were there anyway, R&G stayed and watched the latest episode of “The Amazing Race” as well. It was a deliciously lazy and unproductive afternoon.
And now we have a new week. We have dinner engagements on Tuesday and Friday of this week, at a Brazilian steakhouse (note to self: don’t eat breakfast or lunch tomorrow) and at a new steakhouse in Wheeling. It’s gonna be a carnivorous kind of week!
I’m thinking that napping at my desk would be bad, but man I sure wish I could!
I’m not sure if I was on the invitation list, but since I can see this post I’m going to assume I was. If that assumption is correct, I seem to be missing the invitation posts somehow. If that assumption (that I’m on the list) is not correct, please forgive me for having said anything here; I wouldn’t have anyway except that I can see this post but not an invite post and I’m trying to puzzle that out.
Thanks!
Ah, sorry about that. Unfortunately, given the size of our place we were unable to invite everyone that we wished we could have. Hopefully, we’ll catch y’all on the next party, though!
No problem a’tall! I just knew that there was one I missed before because I didn’t have Taki on my friends list (which I suppose I ought to anyway) and it was announced over there (which made sense given that it was a surprise for you! *grins*) and I thought this might have been one of those things.
Thanks!
I agree with ! Those of us who weren’t kewl enough to make the filter for the invites shouldn’t be subjected to how utterly fantastic your party was!
*Runs off and cries*
That’s…really odd. You were actually supposed to be on that filter. I could swear I added you last week – perhaps I forgot to save the changes? Sorry about that!
(Screening this thread to prevent further drama)
The new pad is awesome! Thanks for the invite and your roast(s) were crazy delicious.
FYI: Don’t ever take 83 back. That was a clusterfuck and a half 😛
Um, whoops. Sorry about that!
So…just how long did it take to sober up, anyway? 🙂
Considering how long it took to take 83 back…..I would say Mt. Prospect-ish area 😛
Heh, you basically took the commute I do when I drive. I should of told you to avoid it.
On a side note, don’t you have the Sirius Stiletto? How well do you get live content while on the train commuting? I miss my Sirius on my commute now.
Well the “live” aspects are kinda lacking in all honesty. The unit comes with two sets of headphones: one BULKY pair that comes with an “antenna booster” and a normal earbud set. You can’t get reception with the buds; the bulky pair allows for limited reception (ie: walking around innerloop I would have fine signal; train = no reception) but they are a pain in the ass to wear and I would rather have a rabid racoon on my head. So when it comes to mobile-satellite it’s pretty frustrating.
HOWEVER….this unit more than makes it for it with the fact it auto-saves anything that’s played. So all streams are saved until memory is exhausted. In turn you can have it auto-record pre-programmed times and you can save individual streaming songs or upload your own songs (like an Ipod). So although I’m lacking “live” music, I always have 20+hours of music saved (outside of uploaded music) to use for the train.
So all in all I absolutely love the unit and would recommend it highly.

Call me?
😉
Robin Hood
It’s an interesting interpretation of the Robin Hood mythos. I torrented the show after Doctor Who went off the air. It is a bit modern, but I thought the stories were well written and the humor delicious. I recommend the series (if that counts for anything).
Much is played by the grandson of Patrick Troughton, the 2nd Doctor. And the guy who plays Guy of Gisborne was the love interest in the final episode of Vicar of Dibley.
And I wonder why I’m still a grad student sometimes….
We had a great time, even if it did mean trekking out into the hinterlands. Thanks for inviting us out!
He posts! *giggles*
We should get together soon. What are you doing the Saturday after next? There’s an expedition to some abandoned buildings going on. If you’re intersted, email me or give me a call! *bounce*
I’m going to be in… Michigan I think. It sounds fun but I don’t know that I will be able to make it.
*pokes and gasps*
You’re on El… Jay…
That’s okay. We should get together soon anyway. I was down in Chicago this past weekend, not far from your place actually, and was thinking we need to do something.
Is that a pair of LG Washer/Dryer Combo’s? Mmmm I want!
Neat idea with taking all the pictures. I’d consider doing that here but.. our place is in a state of shambles at the moment >.<
Place looks great and OMG SO MANY STUFFED ANIMALS! Maybe you could put up a series of shelves to place them all so you could place.. home entertainment stuff around the TV 😉
Impressive accomodations, esp. the dual-car garage to keep ’em out of the snow 🙂 Thanks for posting the virtual tour!
Y’all enjoy your freshly-warmed house now, ya hear?!!!
Cheers!
I highly recomend Vanessa Daou as good relaxing music. I call it acid jazz, dunno what it’s technical classification is. She’s got this almost spoken style, with really laid back beats.
check out pandora.com and you can pull up a station that has a lot of her work on it. Afro Celt Sound System is also a good group.
