I’ve seen a couple of people post stuff like this, and I figured, what the heck…
Duncan Goes to Anthrocon, or The Care and Feeding of a Frazzled Husky
- takaza and I are leaving for Pittsburgh early Wednesday morning (a week form today, eep!) and should be arriving around 3 PM EDT.
- I’m running Artists Alley and Con Store again this year. It’s a lot of work, but it really does feel worthwhile. Because of this I’ll be working pretty much nonstop from 7 AM to 6 PM or later each day. If you want to find me, look in Hall C of the Convention Center, ’cause that’s most likely where I’ll be.
- I’ll have my cell phone with me at all times; if you’re looking for me that’ll be the best way to find me (unless you have an Anthrocon-issued Nextel – that will be an even better way to reach me!). If you need my phone number you probably already have it; let me know if you need it.
- If I pass you in the hallway and don’t acknowledge you, I’m not being an uncaring bastard – I’m probably preoccupied and in a hurry to get someplace. I apologize now if you think I’m blowing you off.
- Likewise, while I wish I could socialize with all of my friends every time I see them, my days are going to be very busy. If you see me after 6 PM, chances are I’ll be much more relaxed.
- If you see me working at Artists Alley, chances are I probably haven’t eaten or had anything to drink for a while because, well, I forget to do that when I get busy. Slip me a bottle of water and I’ll be your friend for life. Along with that, it’s been observed anecdotally that when I haven’t eaten in a while and my blood sugar gets low, I tend to get a bit snappish. I’ll try to watch out for this but I ask for your understanding as well.
- In noisy situations with lots of crowds, please try to speak up when we talk; my hearing is pretty crappy in such situations.
- I’m pretty OK with hugs, but I’m also jealous of my personal space. If I don’t know you well, a firm handshake might be preferable.
- While I’m good with faces, unfortunately I’m terrible with names. Don’t be put off if I have to glance at your name badge before I realize who you are 🙂
- As for parties, I’ll be at the WikiFur Room Party on Friday night, and on Saturday evening I’ll be hosting a small invite-only gathering in our suite. On Sunday, I’ll most likely be sitting in silence in our suite, staring at the wall. Hey, you relax your way, I’ll relax my way 😉 I’ll probably emerge to be sociable at some point, though, or invite some folks up to hang out.
- In case you’re wondering, here’s what I look like. That’s me on the left and Takaza on the right.
The weird thing is, this is what I do for fun! But I do enjoy it in my own warped way, and I’m fortunate that Takaza enjoys it as well, so it’s something that we can do together.
Oh, and that reminds me of one more thing to add to the list: If you see Takaza walking by, be sure to stop him and beep his nose 🙂

First thought I had was: Taki would knock my skinny ass out.
You? I would never do that to you! You make me laugh with your stories and such and I would never want to ruin that.
Soooooo….
I should stop you in the halls, demand your attention and give you a big, gropey hug and get pissed off as you look down to read my badge.
Got it.
You could do that, but then you’d get me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.
And besides, I can look down and identify you pretty easily – you’re the perv without any pants.
Riiight… He’s looking at your…. Badge.
I think we must have a sadistic view of ‘fun’…
Um…do I want to know why? Damn…and I’m going to miss that. beep him for me. 😉
Try to have fun, Dunc. Perhaps we will meet at another con.
Single Malt room party? BYOB?
See this post for more information 🙂
Data never picked up my tea from Woof … did it happen to make it home with you?
