Wuffmeet and FRAC are fast approaching! Today, we need to talk about FRAC. Right now, we have the following participants signed up for FRAC:
DaveQat
Linnaeus
Lisa
Mirko
Moira
Simba
Sirius
Stormdog
Synicism
Posicat
Osiris
That’s great! Except for one slight problem: eleven is an odd number. We need one more person! (or three more people – what the heck 🙂 If you are reading this and are thinking about participating, or know someone who would make a good addition to Wuffmeet, we need to know immediately! It’s only $12.50 to participate, and we guarantee a fun and exciting afternoon.
As for teams, right now I know that DaveQat and Syn, and Sirius and Simba are teaming up – the rest of you, I’m not sure. Talk amongst yourselves, and figure out who’s one whose team, then tell us your team name. We need teams and team names NO LATER THAN SUNDAY!
And now, the rules. These are only slightly changed from FRAC 1, but it’s worth re-reading them:
Furries Race Across Chicago: FRAC 2!
The object of FRAC is to visit a set number of checkpoints in the correct order and return to FRAC Headquarters in the shortest amount of time. Remember that we are playing this not for money or prizes, for the honor of being named FRAC Champions and, most importantly, to have fun.
Requirements
What you will need:
* A personal vehicle (one per team) – if this is unavailable, we can work something out
* Comfortable shoes (you’re going to be doing a good bit of walking)
* A cell phone
What will be provided:
* Tolls (if needed)
* Public Transportation Fares (if needed)
* Permits and passes (if needed)
* Maps
Allowed Transportation
The only allowed methods of travel are by car, foot or local public transportation (city bus, ferry, train, or trolley). Any and all other methods of transportation, including, but not limited to taxicab, limousine, skateboard, scooter, motorcycle, skates, pedicab and rickshaw are strictly prohibited. Certain forms of transportation may be required to reach individual checkpoints; these will be specified in the checkpoint clue. Any team using a disallowed form of transportation will be assessed a 120-minute time penalty.
Starting the Event
Teams will leave FRAC HQ in an order determined on race day. Each team’s departure will be separated from the previous team’s by a predetermined time. At the beginning of the race, teams will be given a packet containing all of the clues and puzzles they will need (and some they won’t need). Teams will be instructed in which order to open the clues over the course of the race. Note that there will be more clue envelopes in your packet than you need. If, on return to FRAC HQ at the end of the race, it is determined that any of the extra clue envelopes were opened the team will be assessed a 60-minute time penalty for each extra envelope that has been opened.
Finding the Checkpoints
Teams will be given clues to checkpoints that will be somewhere in Chicagoland. Teams will need to go to the checkpoint and find the information specified in the clue. Once they have this information, they will call FRAC HQ via a phone number they will be given at the beginning of the event. If it is the correct answer, they will be told which clue to open next. If they are incorrect, they will be told to keep looking.
If teams have problems finding the checkpoint, they can call that Hint Hotline (a second phone number also supplied at the beginning of the race) for a hint., although the cost of a hint is a ten-minute time penalty. After the hint, teams may request the location of the checkpoint, but this will result in another ten-minute time penalty. Using the Internet, or calling a non-participant and requesting assistance from them is prohibited. Besides, where’s the fun in that? Talking to the locals and ferreting out information along the way is quite legal, though, and fully encouraged.
Finish
Teams will have a total of six hours from the time that the event timer starts for them to complete the course. Any team that is still on the course at this time will be called and told to return to HQ. Six hours of fun is enough for one day. All teams are required to return to FRAC HQ and present their clue packets.
General Conduct
Play with honor. If you think it’s cheating, it probably is. Your FRAC HQ hotline will be available during the race if you have any questions about the legality of an action.
We’re doing this to have fun – remember that, please. No team or member of a team may act in a way that physically impedes the progress of another team. Violation of this rule results in immediate disqualification of the team.
No team or member of a team may push, shove, trip, hit, spit at, or otherwise invade the personal space of any other person whether they are a challenger or spectator. Violation of this rule results in immediate disqualification of the team.
Finally, any team or member of a team that violates state or local laws, including, but not limited to traffic laws, is subject to immediate disqualification.
The Legal Stuff
By entering Furries Race Across Chicago (FRAC), registrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules. All decisions interpreting or applying these rules are made by the FRAC Organizing Committee. All decisions and interpretations of the FRAC Organizing Committee are final; there is no right of appeal or review. These rules are subject to change without notice.
We have received payment for Wuffmeet and/or FRAC from Mirko, Dali, Mistletoe, Tremaine, DaveQat, and Synicism. As a reminder, it’s $30 per person for Wuffmeet and an additional $12.50 per person for FRAC. We will be at the MFF Staff Meeting this weekend if people want to pass us money then, or you can send it by Paypal to takaza@wolfhusky.org.
Questions? Let us know!
I and I think TOny wanna play too!
Awesome! Should we put you two down for Saturday only (just FRAC) or for the full weekend (Wuffmeet too)?
The Whole shebang… though I might be missing a bit of friday cause of not being able to get out of work sadly so I might be getting in late…*sigh*
Great! We’ll add you to the list.
There’s not too much going on Friday, though we’ll keep dinner warm for you, if you’ll be in before midnight.
BTW, you may want to reconfirm your reservation with the hotel, the paperwork I have states you have your room Saturday-Tuesday…
Yeah, it oughta’ be fun as long as Mirko doesn’t own everyone again this year.
By the way, you might want to mention bringing umbrellas, *just in case*.
Well, Sunday the 28th is the rain date for FRAC, but if the weather’s crappy both Saturday and Sunday, it will happen Sunday rain or shine.
Sooo…can I entice anyone to be my partner for FRAC next weekend? A spot is open on Team Alpha Bitch II: The Reckoning (*cough* It should be noted that Team Alpha Bitch took second place last fall). The way I figure it, I’m probably going to be the odd girl out. I figured the likely pairings and I think Stormdog will end up partnering with either Lisa or Posi (It’s better that way. I’d kinda like to stay married.). I may just drop out of the game considering Storm will likely have our car and I have no cellie anyway. It sounds like Tin & Tony plan to participate, so they could take my spot AND it would even out the teams. If anyone’s interested, I’m still willing to play however. Thoughts?
Well obviously we’d rather add people than lose them, and hopefully someone will come in and even things up. I can think of a couple of prospects, who I’m poking offline. We’ll see how successful I am…
Hey…either way. =) I’d like to do it but if not, I’m not going to be having horrible kindergarten flashbacks of musical chairs failure.
Are you a driver?
ah yes, actually *read* the post. ‘kay, you got a callie.
Alpha Bitches, or Bitches on Wheels?
Either! Does this mean I have a partner? =)
yep
Would I be treading on toes if I set up a group to see X3 that weekend? (And should I prepurchase tickets?)
I don’t think so, though it might be best if you did it Friday or Sunday night, since we’re feeding people pizza on Saturday night (and they might be a bit tuckered out after FRAC).
Oh, and as for prepurchasing – that’s up to you. You know what it’s like herding these cats 🙂 I’d imagine Friday might be crowded, but Sunday probably would be less so.
Now that I can’t afford to go to Boston, I’d love to get in on this action, if there were someone with whom I could partner.
I’m sure we can work something out. You don’t have a car, right? Hmm, we’ll need to pair you up with someone with transportation.
