Oh, ouch…

Yet another reason that Hollywood sucks and why I haven’t been to a movie theater since November is this quote from the Chicago Tribune’s Kevin Williams on the remake of The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler:

Yet the biggest mistake of this “Yard” is that it all hangs on on Sandler, whose acting is as inept as the rest of this movie, serious dialogue issuing from his dead face like Clutch Cargo doing “Hamlet”
Rating: One star out of a possible four stars

From what I’ve heard they were being pretty generous with a single star.
Thank you Hollywood for destroying another movie from my youth. I liked the original.

The only reason I’ve heard of this film was due to the rabid advertising for bad films they do around campus. They like to put a really pretty picture in the panel provided on top of newspaper racks, and hope it’ll convince students to go see movies.
Here’s why I think they’re silly. Recently my school has tried promoting Sahara and Longest Yard. The poster for Sahara has a buff guy, a hot chick, cargo pants, a big coin, and the word “adventure”. Soooo what’s it about? Just as silly, Longest Yard has at least two well known comedians, football, football, tough black dudes, football, a jail, and did I mention football? Oh jesus, does that say something about Nelly? Oh dear lord.
I don’t go to any movies unless my friends drag me kicking and screaming with. The last film I saw was back in September, and before that, I can’t remember. Rhyme not intended.

We watched the edited version of LY on Spike TV last night.
Probably Paramount’s way of throwing moviegoers off.
TCM did that a few years ago by showing the original version of Solaris on its remake’s opening night.
Happens all the time but anyway. Remakes suck.

God, all I can think about whenever anyone says Clutch Cargo anymore is the scene from Pulp Fiction with Walken and the watch.

Call me crazy, but we went to see The Longest Yard on Friday night. While it was by no means a “good” movie and will certainly not win any awards, it was absolutely hysterical. I was not feeling good and did not want to sit through a movie while not feeling good so I was rather grumpy at the beginning of the movie, but within about 10 minutes of the movie starting, I was laughing my ass off and felt much better. By the end of the movie, I didn’t feel nearly so crappy and was actually in a good mood. I have seen much worse movies (Battlefield Earth anyone? Or how about Highlander 2?) and I have seen much better. But it was entertaining which is one of the main reasons in my opinion to even go to the movies. Anyway, that’s my two cents! 🙂
