Weekend Explodey!

Well, if that was supposed to be a quiet weekend at home, I’m afraid we failed. Oh well. We had a hell of a fun time failing, anyway…

Friday night, I was prepared to maybe order in some pizza and watch some TV. Instead, takaza came in after work and proposed heading north to hang out with friends. We wound up having a tasty dinner with roho, datahawk, and posicat at Las Vegas. We adjourned back to roho and genet‘s place to find that Genet had gotten back from her party with a cow-orker, and we passed the rest of the evening chatting and watching more episodes of Distraction. The drive home that night sucked – rain, darkness, and me very sleepy – but we got home OK.

On Saturday, I figured I’d join Roho, Genet, and feren for their usual lunch at BD’s Mongolian BBQ, then head home and run some errands. Yeah, well. Lunch was fun (if you’re ever at the BD’s in Vernon Hills, ask for Sara as your waitress), and afterward, Roho and Feren were going up to Gander Mountain in Kenosha to look at shotguns. I called Dan (who was just waking up 🙂 and he agreed to meet us up in Kenosha. We wandered around Gander Mountain and picked up some folding camp chairs (hey, they were all of $6 each), then went next door to Woodman’s to get snacks and stuff for dinner. Then it was back to Antioch, where I found out about Antioch Packing House, which is a damn cool little butcher shop on IL-83 just south of the railroad tracks, near the state line. The prices are about the same as you see elsewhere, but the quality of meat was superb, and there’s always something reassuring in talking to a butcher who knows his stuff. We picked up some brats and steaks, yum! We were joined by DataHawk for dinner, which was just delicious, and then we settled down for a rousing game of Apples to Apples. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time! It was so much fun, but sadly we had to head home so we took our leave at around 10 PM and made the long trek back to the city.

Sunday, well, OK we didn’t do much on Sunday. Lots of laundry, and I did my taxes. Yeesh. Although I’d hoped that I could take lots of deductions for job-hunting, those deductions were dwarfed by the standard deduction. And so it appears that Uncle Sam wants $2,500 from me. Well, that’s what happens when you pull from your 401(k) early and don’t take out enough taxes. Fortunately, it looks like we can cover the bill, though it’s going to be a bit lean for a few months. After that we picked up dinner from Costello’s sandwiches and came home and collapsed.

I’m not sure what-all we’ll be doing this week, but I’m sure we can come up with something good. LAFF Coffee on Wednesday, as usual. Later this week I’ll have some Anthrocon-related stuff to talk about , as well.

I’m sure that watching me smash the ever-loving christ out of my elbow in an attempt to slap down my “perfect card” had a small part in that.
    Dude, it left a scar.

You should’ve seen him just before bed. I think it’s safe to say he wasn’t feeling the pain in his elbow anymore 😉
