Blame daveqat For This

See, Dave invited people to request interview questions. I did, and here are the results:
1. What do you view as your place in the furry fandom?
2. If you could change any one thing about your life, what would it be?
3. You win a gift certificate good for one meal, prepared at your home, by the chef of your choice. Who do you pick?
4. What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
5. What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

1. What do you view as your place in the furry fandom?

I see myself as a facilitator, someone who helps others enjoy the fandom as much as I have. This seems to have followed a role I established in the Society for Creative Anachronism as well – I find something that interests me in a fandom, I get active in it, and eventually I wind up planning and helping to pull off events and gatherings. It’s probably the engineer in me – I see events as logic puzzles to be solved, and working out solutions to logistical problems is my way of having fun. It’s a weird way to enjoy a fandom, I suppose, but it works for me.

2. If you could change any one thing about your life, what would it be?

Probably my health. I’m easily 100 pounds overweight, and I don’t like it at all. I’m inching towards 40 and realizing that if I don’t start doing something about this now, the repercussions are going to come home sooner than later. There’s no magic bullet for this, though – it’s going to take exercise and eating right, and that’s something I’m continuing to work on.

3. You win a gift certificate good for one meal, prepared at your home, by the chef of your choice. Who do you pick?

This is a tough call, and one that’s likely to change at any hour of a given day. Lately I’m intrigued by Thomas Keller, but ask me tomorrow and it might be Mario Batali or Rick Bayless.

4. What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

Well, you have to keep in mind that when I consider a meal, I’m thinking of not just the food, but the company, the atmosphere, the entire experience. And so I’m reminded of a Christmas Eve party that we hosted at our house in Holly Springs, North Carolina in 2002. We deep-fried a turkey, everyone brought side dishes, the wine was excellent and plentiful, and we were surrounded by dear friends. That was probably the best I’ve ever had.

5. What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement was realized on November 18, 2001, when Dan and I celebrated our commitment to each other in the company of our friends and family. I have never been happier than I was that night.
