Things To Do In Racine When You’re…OK, Really, There’s Nothing To Do In Racine

Hey, a con report! A day after the con is over! Amazing! Exclamation point!

So last weekend takaza and I went to Congenial. Congenial is a nice little relaxacon held every year at the Racine (WI) Marriott. It’s chaired by unclevlad, with assistance provided by rennie_frog, wyldekyttin, and datahawk. Maybe 50 people in attendance, all told. The con consists of a con suite. Um, that was about it, really. Lots of food was served in the con suite, and it pretty much served as a general gathering place, but not much else was going on. There was also a lovely swimming pool and hot tub, and that was lovely, too. roho and genet attended, bringing their white ball of fluff (aka Briana the samoyed). After his employer had devoured his soul and kept him at home and up all night on Friday, linnaeus was able to join us on Saturday as well. We had a lovely time hanging out with friends, swimming, and eating kringles.

On Sunday we left around noon. On the way home we made sure to stop at Mars Cheese Castle so Dan could pick up some overpriced cheese (though the cheddar spread was tasty). Then we joined Roho and Genet for lunch at Las Vegas (mmm, the Vegas Skillet gets me every time). We parted ways afterward and we made a stop by our storage unit to drop off a few things and pick up some items we had left behind. Egad, that thing is stuffed to the gills. From there, I stopped by American Science and Surplus to pick up some tools I’d need to install my Sirius satellite radio. See, while the radio looks fine sitting on the (vast) dashboard of the Element, I didn’t want to put it on the dash of the Alero because it would be distracting. I found a good alternative, and with minimal fuss we succeeded in installing it. Running the antenna wire proved to be a little more exciting, but we worked it out. And now everything is installed and it works great! Looks pretty cool, too.

And after that? Well, then I sat on my ass and played Ratchet and Clank for two hours. And life was good 🙂

Not too much going on this week, or even next weekend, for a change. I’m taking my car in for its final in-warranty service tomorrow, and then we’ve got LAFF Coffee on Wednesday. On Saturday, the installer is coming to hook us up with DirecTV, which should be interesting given the forecast for snow. We’ll work that out, I guess.

Oh, and finally: Did you know the Iditarod started over the weekend? Hmm, I wonder if we get OLN?

Bleah. It was so nice this weekend… why couldn’t that niceness stick around for the weekend I’m actually going to be in a *parade*? 😛

    Mars Cheese Castle
I have a group of friends who occasionally get the overwhelming urge for good cheese. The Mars Cheese Castle is always one of our stops. I’m sure we could find 30y/o Cheddar (cheese so sharp you bite it, it bites you back) around Chicago, if we looked hard enough… But there’s something distinctly relaxing about making the trip. My friend Bobbie keeps a cooler in the trunk of her Mercedes specifically for these emergency cheese runs.
