It would appear that some timer on our roommate/landlord’s house went “DING!” because things have been going to hell lately.
First the 90-Amp circuit breaker that feeds the main subpanel (to which everything but the A/C is attached) went bad, resulting in several housewide outages until the breaker was replaced. Then the faucet in the hall bath (our bathroom) started leaking. It’s a Moen faucet and the valve capsule needs to be replaced – I’d do it but it’s tricky enough and the damage from screwing it up is bad enough that I’ll defer to professionals. That’s been leaking for over a week now, and I expect our water bill will reflect that accordingly. I can only hope said roommate calls a plumber about it soon. On Monday the upstairs A/C (where the bedrooms are) went out; apparently the coils sprung a leak and need to be replaced. Oh, and the part won’t be in until this coming Monday. Fortunately, we have a window A/C unit in our bedroom so it’s been OK for us, though our roommate is sweating a lot. The only downside is our Tivo is upstairs as well and let’s just say it hasn’t been a hospitable climate to sit and watch TV. Oh, and there was no hot water for my shower this morning because the pilot light on the water heater went out again.
Did I mention the house is less than two years old?
Did I mention how glad I am that we don’t own this piece of crap?
Anyway. I drove back yesterday from visiting my parents for a few days. I had a really good time and it was nice to see the family again, though it was also nice to come home to my wonderful wolf. We had a nice dinner out last night, capped with the obligatory gelato.
So this weekend we’re off to the beach (and escaping the overheated house), yay! Then on Monday I fly out to Columbus, Ohio. I’ve had a bit of stress over the past few days because I still hadn’t heard from the interviewing company what my itinerary would be – flights, times, rental car, etc. I finally got the recruiter on the phone this morning and she said, “Oh! We forgot about that, didn’t we?” After calling the company, it turns out that I was supposed to make the arrangements. Uhhhh, OK. I have no problem doing it, I just wish they’d let me know sooner. I was able to get some nice direct flights and found a hotel near the airport with high-speed Internet access (Staybridge Suites). I wish I would have time to be social with some of the Ohio furs while I’m in town, but it looks like I won’t have time for that, really.
I fly back from Columbus on Tuesday night, then pack Wednesday, and on Thursday we drive up to Philly. Whee!
You’re driving up Thursday now? Huh.. I’m still trying to figure out when I’m leaving. Either right after work on Wed or Thursday early early morning.
Yeah, once we figured out that it’s only about an 8 – 8.5 hour drive, things became a whole lot more workable. Takaza wants to be up there by late afternoon Thursday to lay the groundwork for the newsletter.
I’d suggest something about a convoy up Thursday morning, but I suspect we drive waaaaay too slow for you 😉
That, and I’d have a 6 hour drive before getting to your place. Unless you mean crash at your place. That’d be nice…
[Did I mention the house is less than two years old?]
I’m less impressed by construction from the 90s/00s than I am by that from the 70s. I think this is why I’m going to buy a house that’s been around for a while…. it’s more likely to have trees on the lot that aren’t saplings, it’s less likely to be in a homeowner’s association and I don’t have to tolerate the crap builders are pulling these days (I know most of the things that went on in the 70s and 80s, and I can deal with that).
