Jump-starting

So we begin a new week, though I’m not sure I’m ready yet. Where’d I leave my jumper cables?

So as I mentioned before, partran drove in to spend the weekend with us. Yep, we got him hooked on LiveJournal too. We’re just evil that way – it’s a hobby, y’know.

Anyway, da tiger joined us for the weekend. Friday night was a delicious dinner at Copelands (their shrimp macque choux ravioli is to die for!) followed by decadent ice cream confections at a small local ice cream place called Pop’s. I love this kind of place – several months ago, we drove up at close to 10 PM to see if we could get a milkshake to cap off a late dinner, only to find that they had closed an hour before. As we prepared to drive away, the owner opened the service window and stuck his head out: “We closed at 9, but I’m still here. What would you like?” That kind of service in today’s world means not only will I always be back, but I’ll be sure to point my friends and co-workers there, too. Plus, the ice cream is to die for 🙂

Saturday was the promised Adventure in Retail Hell, and it was everything we expected. Imagine the biggest mall in your area the weekend before Christmas, and you’d be close. All told, they had 300,000 people there this weekend,in a place that only has 6,400 parking spaces. Word has it that traffic on I-40 backed up for three miles and people waited in their cars for an hour and a half just to get there. We, of course, took the back way in, had no problems getting into the parking lot, and had a parking space in two minutes. People is so stupid sometimes. After we escaped the mall, we had some delicious hamburgers and then joined The Gang for a nice wine tasting. Afterwards, Donald and Janelle had everyone over for fondue and sausages and other yummy things, and a good time was had by all.

Sunday, we did nothing. And it was good. Well, we watched TV and made a quick grocery run, but other than that we did nothing.

This morning Partran left when I did, me for work and him to drive back to Tennessee. Poor guy – he’s got a drive to Memphis ahead of him later this week, too, but hopefully the payoff will be good. We had a great time this weekend, and I wish Partran lived closer, but I guess we’ll just have to make do with what we have.
