Then came the links

Take a small Flash file. Send it to a bunch of artists and tell them to make whatever changes they want and send it back. The result: Blankimage (by way of Bifurcated Rivets)

A wonderful New Year’s ebullition from Eric Norlin: “Laugh more than I worry.” I like that!

This is just beautiful. Did you know Bernard Shifman is a Moron Spammer? Well, now you do.

You know, I look at this and I’m reminded why I need to get a subscription to National Geographic. (Link from Flayrah – sorry for leaving out the attribution earlier!)

We’re thinking about getting an iBook for desktop publishing. I came across this site that has useful information for poor, ignorant Intel junkies like me. (I just ran the numbers to see what a brand-new super-spiffy iBook would run. $1,827. Ack!)

I want my Gay TV!

I confess: Takaza and I are complete Survivor addicts (by the way, check out this hysterical summary of the final episode) The Advocate has an interview with gay Survivor Brandon Quinton, who didn’t get nearly bitchy enough about that homophobe, Frank.

Despite my attempt to not spend much money on computers…I might be buying a used iBook from a friend. I’m still trying to justify this to myself. But hey, $400 for tangerine-colored goodness! 😉
You really don’t need one of the brand-spanking new ones. Try Smalldog Electronics for a good selection of used and refurbished iBooks. Also, $1800 sounds like it would be for one of the brand new 14.1″ screened iBooks. You don’t need that, either. Brand new 12.1″ screen iBooks start at around $1200. This is where I often go to drool.

Well, as things stand right now we’re in debt up to our ears so any computer purchase is pretty much out of the question, really. Maybe once we can get our Visa bill down below $7,000, but that’ll be a while.
Yeah, the price I quoted was for one of the super-spiffy new ones, 14.1″ screen, combo CD-R/DVD drive, 256Mb. I still need to sort through the different models and see what might be considered to be something recent enough to have decent firepower yet still not break the bank.

A friend of mine has an iBook…one of the newer silver one…that I’ve played with a bit. I liked it…it was fun to play with. I want a laptop, but I just don’t know how much use an iBook would be for me. I had my share of Macs with my first two computers, the Performa 200 (a supped up Classic II) and 405 (LCII). They were nice…and cheep at the time too which was the main selling point. But I always was longing to have to ‘power’ of a Windoze box. I’m not much into desktop publishing so I’m not sure how helpfull it would be.
I’m really sorry to hear about your Survivor additiction. I do hope they find a cure for it. 🙂 I could never really get into it because it seemed so campy. Yeah…12 people on a deserted island/jungle…along with all the camera crews that film every moment of it. 🙂 Now…if there was a real chance of them maybe starving or getting eaten by that lion they showed in the promos…I’m there. 🙂

I suppose you have to figure out what you really use your laptop for. Neither nor I play computer games, and mainly use our computers for Internet applications, word processing, database work, and desktop publishing – all areas in which Apple computers excel. After having dealt with the instability of “Windoze” for far too long, I’m ready to try something different (and I just don’t have the patience or time to set up and maintain a Linux box).
As for Survivor, well – theoretically, in the next series (Survivor: Marquesas, airing in late February) absolutely no provisions will be given to the contestants. Mark Burnett, the producer, is going to have to have to keep making changes to keep things fresh; this will be the fourth time out, and if it doesn’t get really interesting, it could very well be the last.
