Drive-In Theater! This Saturday!

So, what do you get when you have a couple of movies that score better than 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, a drive-in movie theater, and excellent weather? Sounds to me like a fun trip to the McHenry Outdoor Theater! This weekend, they are showing Despicable Me followed by Toy Story 3. This coming Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low of 62 degrees, and we are definitely going! We would enjoy the company of friends 🙂

We will be gathering at our house, then making the 10-minute drive over to the Outdoor at around 6:45 PM. The movie starts “at dusk or as soon as it is dark enough” (dusk on Saturday will be 9 PM). Tickets are $7.00 each. We will be bringing some tasty food (to be determined), as well as a cooler full of Beverages (adult and otherwise) – you are welcome to bring your own or partake of ours! Be sure to bring a folding chair, though we’ll have some to lend out. Insect repellant is a good idea, too. The theater also has a decent concession stand for burgers & such.

Interested in joining us? Let me know here or by IM!

I don’t believe they allow outside food and drink in. They do have some tasty cheeseburgers though in the concession stand.

Speaking from past experience, I can assure you that they do allow outside food and drink 🙂 As long as you don’t grill (or do anything with an open flame, most likely) they don’t much care.

I’d love to make it, but I just planned a lab bbq at the house Sat evening! I guess I should check LJ more often!

Sounds like a lot of fun!

The only part that concerns me is that my bed time has been sometimes arriving with an onset that can only be described as narcoleptic. I’m a little worried about an hour long drive starting at midnight.

Any chance of some contingency crash space if I’m too tired to drive home?

Sure that wouldn’t be a problem at all! We’ll plan on seeing you tonight then. I’m going to pick up some fried chicken, and Genet is bringing some tasty sides to go with it.

I could grab some tasty gourmet sodas and have them on ice in a cooler.

Any other suggestions? Nacho chips and a five-layer dip? Any other gaps I can fill?

Bout how many will be there, as a rough guess?

Sodas would be nifty (and we still have a bunch that you brought Memorial Day, too). Genet is making samosas and homemade rolls to go with dinner. Nachos and dip sounds tasty! Looks like it’ll be Dan and me, Roho and Genet, Dan’s mom, and you.

RUTH IS SOOOO JEALOUS! I keep hearing “I wanna go!”…sorry, fact is that there are more than one or a couple hundred miles ‘twixt here and there. The truly sad fact is that to see one or the other movie here would take two different “going to the movies” occasions….$$$$$$$! Sounds like y’all are gonna have a lot of fun and I, too, would love to be a part of the festivities. Dinner sounds yummy…however, we are bringing in fried chicken too (sooo tired of cooking!) but we get to have Bo Jangles…a bit spicier than KFC or Churches….gotta love the dirty rice!
Marvin has “chosen” staining and repainting the deck and trim as his ‘project’ this summer chez nous. A bigger undertaking than was assumed……..ugh! Now if we can just get the last week of dry weather……ummm, maybe. Gonna send the boys up to clean the gutters, Tim has made a HUGE bonfire (yeah, it’s gonna get ‘trimmed’) for their denouement. He arrived with a middle ear infection and managed to add “swimmer’s ear” in BOTH ears shortly thereafter, ergo the pool hasn’t been crowded for the past week. Chris has spent his time watching every episode of “StarGate” ever made. My ears hurt!
