- boiled in lead:
Boiled in Lead was a fabulous rock/punk/Celtic band out of Minneapolis. I first heard of them in 1988 in Emma Bull’s fabulous “War for the Oaks” and shortly thereafter came upon a vinyl copy of their album “Hotheads” at the late, lamented House of Musical Traditions in Tacoma Park, Maryland. I was in love! While the band is not quite the going concern it once was, they perform a reunion show ever St. Patrick’s Day at the First Avenue nightclub in Minneapolis. I got to see them live there in 1998 with nrasser! - chocolate:
It is sin made solid, the food of the gods, and just so damn tasty! - folk music:
I didn’t use to be a folk music fan, actually. When I first started at WTUL-FM at Tulane in New Orleans, I apprenticed with the Global Folk Show DJ on Sunday mornings. I didn’t know anything about folk music, but I liked what I heard there. After a semester I inherited the show. My love of folk and roots music has only grown since. - heather alexander:
I’ll be honest: I prefer her (old, old, I know) stuff with Phoenyx to her newer solo stuff (haven’t heard anything by Heathen Horse, though). She’s an excellent songwriter, though, and I’m sure she would be great to see live (yes Aeto, I know 🙂 - junkyard wars:
(aka Scrapheap Challenge in the UK) Sadly out of production, I always loved this silly MacGyver-in-action show. The British imports were infinitely superior to the American-made versions, though. - mead:
A little honey, a little water, a little time…yum! A good, complex mead is comparable to a fine port. - nightnoise:
Another band which is pretty much defunct, Nightnoise had a fabulous Celtic sound mixed with a hint of new age. I got to interview several of the band members when I was at Clemson U. in the early ’90s, and they were extremely nice folks. - role playing:
Yeah, I’m a gamer geek at heart, though I’m a few years out of practice. I started with the dreaded red box D&D Basic Set in the early 80’s, moved to GURPS in the 90’s, and White Wolf in the late 90’s (mostly Mage, though). - spirit of the west:
Goodness, I like my music, don’t I? Spirit of the West is a wonderful band out of Vancouver, BC who I’ve followed from their early folk/Celtic roots through Celtic-inflected rock to pop. While each album can be a little uneven, there’s always sure to be a couple of gems that really are great. - urban fantasy:
A throwback to when I actually had time to read 🙂 I was and still am a huge fan of urban fantasy books, from the aforementioned “War for the Oaks” to Charles de Lint’s alternate Toronto to the fabulously dark and quirky Borderlands/Bordertown series. All good stuff!

Yay for Nightnoise, folk music, Celtic, and mead. Good stuff all.
