I finally got my car dug out on Sunday and now we have an ice storm coming in. Dammit. Ah well, another few days taking the train in, it sounds like…
I’m going to try out Geja’s Cafe tonight with daveqat and jimcyl. Should be good, and I’m looking forward to some tasty fondue! With luck, linnaeus will be well enough to join us.
Finally: At last, the secret behind takaza and my short haircuts can be revealed: Let Us Trim Our Hair In Accordance With Socialist Lifestyle!

Such is Chicago in the Winter. At least it’s not bitterly cold–or it won’t be until Friday.
The side streets in the city look like they’ve been plowed. That’s a new feature. Traditionally, besides there being no spots available (or there are spots but somebody’s kitchen chairs are reserving them), all the cars are parked two feet from the curb. That means driving down the street on lumpy compacted snow, trying not to hit parked cars, in a lane that’s four feet narrower than normal.
Forty Chicago winters have made me appreciate them less.
My snow drama was the new Condo Ass. next door snowblowing their parking lot onto my landlord’s property. Normally, I’d be able to pull my car out of its snowshadow, but the Condo Ass’ snow-removal company managed to blow the snow completely over the easement, the westernmost spot next to mine (which was empty), and all over the side of my car. And the guy who did the back sidewalk essentially piled snow by the other side of the car. So I kinda had to dig my car out too.
The one thing I’m really grateful for is that I was able to put my car behind my apartment without getting stuck. The new tires are working out great.
Hehehe… the North Korea link is funny! I love the BBC news and read it on my PDA. But I had missed that one! Best of luck with the weather and all that – sounds like it’s going to take a little to get used to that again after living down South. Take care!
