Hey, I stole it from somewhere else, too 🙂 I took this layout and style sheet from <a href="http://www.glish.com/css/" rel="nofollow">glish.com</a> and modified it, teaching myself what each element meant on the fly. My layout is based on their <a href="http://www.glish.com/css/7.asp" rel="nofollow">three-column</a> style.</p>

Eek. You know, the more I looked at it the more I agreed with you.
I made a revision on those three pages and it should be much more legible (black text on white background). I got rid of the bold effect on mouse hover over links, too, because it was annoying me to have the text move around as you moved your mouse around. 
Finally, I did something which is the one great value of CSS (IMHO): I linked all the pages to one style sheet, so if I ever want to change the look of all the pages, I just have to change one file. I should have done that to begin with.]]></description>
