That is apparently Oprah’s fault. She declared them her favorite variety a few years ago, and now the demand continues to rise faster than production. I wish she’d explore a few of the much tastier old fashioned types, like the Spy, the Pippin, or the Gravenstein. Obviously she’s already gotten past the “apples have to be red and shiny” obstacle, since Honeycrisp are sorta greenish with blotches.
