In reply to artyskox.

I'm fortunate that apparently some Element owners are pretty zealous in their maintenance, and documenting such.

The primary things that I would need to get would be the service manual ($75), jack stands ($25), and a torque wrench ($32). It's tedious getting the lug nuts on and off, but not so much that I would have to get the air compressor and impact wrench. The nice thing is that the investment would stand me in good stead for any future work that might be necessary on the cars, particularly since they're now out of warranty.

I was *almost* able to replace my break pads myself until I found one of the nuts on the inside of the rim had been completely stripped.. so there was no chance of me getting it off or replaced w/o the proper tools. It's a lil frustrating depending on where they put the screws, but not that difficult (certainly not $250 difficult).
