Yeah, it’s not for everyone, but we like it. 🙂 Of course, being the FNG, I’m only on 3 songs. But our Christmas CD will rock! Traditional Christmas songs, as well as our funny Pirate Xmas medley.

If you get to LP before I do, let me know how it is.

I’m already a huge fan, but thanks for the pointer regardless! The band I was listening to when I posted this, Urban Trad, has a similar sound, but slightly different musical influences (Nordic, I think?). Their song “Kerua” won Eurovision a few years back.

Ooh, nice. Kind of has the same slightly downbeat sound of Kate Wolf, but less bluegrass influence. I’ll definitely listen to more of this.

I have three of Afro-Celt Sound System’s albums – great stuff! DCD is fascinating listening, and I think I have one of their albums somewhere. They’re not something I would see listening to a lot of, though.

As for Boiled in Lead, I literally have almost everything they’ve ever released, from the cassette-only “Boiled Alive” to the fan-only CD “Alloy 2”. “Antler Dance” is a good album, but my favorite has always been “From the Ladle to the Grave” with “Orb” a close second. Drooling fanboy? Me? 🙂

I’ve got a copy of “Passion” and while it shows up in random shuffles, I haven’t listened to it straight through in a while. I should do that.

Marc Cohn – I seriously need to get his newer albums. I know every song on his eponymous album by heart, and I love ’em all (especially “True Companion”).

Finally, I’ll definitely give David’s stuff a listen. I remember seeing the he was playing at Six String Cafe back when we were around there, but never had a chance to see him.

Hee! I didn’t know y’all had recorded a CD. It sounds quite nice, and I love the harmonies, but it’s probably not something I would listen to a lot (I lean more towards the instrumental music of that period, for all that I had a blast learning and performing a couple of pieces at a University in Charlottesville many, many years ago).

Thanks for reminding me about the Linkin Park, though – I need to check that out!

Heh. I knew I could rely on you for one of the more interesting picks. Alas, I could only find some snippets of their stuff on Amazon. I swear, they remind me for all the world of Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians, with a bit less finesse. I’m not sure their sound will grow on me, but I’ll check out a couple more tracks to see.

I’ve heard some of their stuff on various Celtic internet radio stations. I like what I hear of them! I’ll have to look into picking up a couple of their albums.

peter gabriel’s passion is one of my favorites – and passion sources is amazing. also, long walk home is grabbing me lately.

david lamotte is a friend of mine from college who makes the only folk music i can tolerate. he can make me laugh… or cry… or think… or all three at once. also, i met coming to see him play at ninth street bakery. (and that’ll tell you how long ago!) he has some mp3s on his website – i’m sentimentally attached to his earlier cds, but i find myself humming the tagline from "saturday" whenever i’m in a particularly good mood.

marc cohn is great for singing along to – the man just knows. i used to think his eponymous cd was my favorite, but i’ve been reaching for burning the daze instead recently. "i talk to you in turbulence / that’s when i see the light…"
