Heh. Believe me, I am very well-acquainted with this magic word, after fifteen years in fannish volunteer organizations (first the SCA, then furry fandom). I’m a very firm believer in the idea that this is a hobby – something you do for fun. If it isn’t fun, you shouldn’t be doing it. And that’s the weird thing: all the preparations, the logistics, the herding cats…that’s my idea of fun.

There is this magic word a friend of mine who helps run cons has taught me. Its a very powerful word. It can free you from many a burden. That word is NO. :xP Hehe. Examples of this would be:
“Duncan would you like to run registration for a new convention we are starting”
No.
“Duncan can you please chair our convention.”
In this case you are allowed to enhance the word with Fuck if you like. So in this case you would say?
Fuck NO!
You may consider punctuating it with the act of running away but that’s personal preference. :xD

Lest anyone misunderstand: The reason it’s enough is that if I go to a convention, I’m going to be working at it. Anthrocon requires about four months of prep; MFF requires about six months of prep. They’re already overlapping – if I add another con in there, things start to get messy.

It’s funny that you mentioned that, we’ve been talking about going, though it may not happen this year due to not having any vacation time yet.

I assure you, we had a cockroach attempting to convince us of the very same thing just a few days ago 🙂 Alas, I’m a contractor these days, so time is money and vacation is but a sad joke. , on the other hand, may be a (slight) possibility. It depends a lot on how the moving goes for us, available funds, and what plans get made before now and then. As for myself, I’ve heard a lot of nice things about Megaplex, and I would certainly like to attend someday!
