Ahh, didn't know it was a persistant issue. Mine used to be a lot worse than it is currently, in terms of heartburn and reflux, but I've never been on any prescribed meds for it. Always just ran for the Tums or now the little chewies. Might not hurt to try and pack and see if it helps cut down on that two and a half hour waiting period.

I have GERD, and I take Protonix on a daily basis. Usually when things are a little dicey I take some Pepto-Bismol caplets before bed and that takes care of things - I was just stupid and forgot this time around.
I've tried a couple of different proton pump inhibitors (Nexium, Prevacid) and Protonix seems to work the best, but it's obviously not foolproof. It seems that there is definitely a dietary component for keeping things in check; ultimately it comes down to the old joke of "Doctor, it hurts when I punch myself in the face!" "Have you tried not punching yourself in the face?" I know that raw onions and tomato sauces are problematic, but during the day the worst that happens is mild stomach upset. I'm still trying to figure out how soon before bed I can safely eat this kind of stuff. So far I'm back to about two and a half hours, which sucks when you normally go to bed at 10 PM.

So, as predicted, we did spend a delightful evening at roho and genet's in the company of ottr and riecka. Charcoal Grill in Kenosha provided tasty burgers and so-so drinks (note to self: next time stick to the mai tais - the Long Islands there suck), then back to R&G's where Diesel proceeded to clean our clocks at Texas hold 'em. It was a lot of fun, and many thanks to R&G for putting us up for the night!
Worse yet, we both forgot our complimentary Long Island cups! That would've almost made up for the watery $6 drink :P
Unfortunately, I was reminded of the perils of raw onions too soon before bedtime as I had one of the worst attacks of reflux that I've had in quite a while that night, after midnight. I stayed up for almost an hour waiting for things to settle down, and still have a nasty "scorched" throat to show for it.
Don't know if you've tried them or not, but Rolaids offers these new chewables that work wonders. Normally I scarf down handfuls of Tums or some similar crunchy reflux tablet, and then sit around and wait for the pain to subside. But these chewies, I swear they work in like five minutes. They smell like Juicyfruit gum, and are a bit overwhelming at first, but they've worked for me like a charm.
