Best wishes to you to find something that works! I used to have a lot of acid reflux, but finally was able to reduce the stress in my life, and got my problems under control.

Effective, expensive and no generic:
Lucky you. Protonix costs me roughly $200 for 3 months, and that’s going through Canada. It’d be about $400 if I bought it here in the states.

Yeah, I have a hiatial hernia thing that my father had. Not quite the same, but similar in results.
So, I have to watch what I eat 3-6 hours before bedtime. Tomatoes, red wine, spicey foods, nuts, coffee… nothing like that after 6pm if I am going to bed at 10 or 11pm.
I sleep a lot better now. =)

In reply to neowolf2. Hmm. I'll ask my doctor about the zinc. Protonix (pantaprazole) is int he same family as Prilosec/Nexium (omeprazole). The annoying thing is that our prescription insurance, Medco, charges me $35 per month for the Protonix vs. $10 per month for omeprazole. They want me to switch, even though the latter just plain doesn't work for me. I'll have to talk to my doctor this afternoon and see if there are any other alternatives.

I’ve found taking zinc also helps (but take it with food to avoid possible stomach upset).
Protonix — is that in the pepcid family of drugs, or the prilosec/nexium family? My doctor tells me the former is often less effective.
