Thanks for the info. The Best Buy near my folks’ house had the Netgear WG111, but the serial numbers all started with 165 which is listed as one that doesn’t work on the TiVo wireless adapter page. Now that we’re back home, I’ll check the local Best Buy for ones with a 130 serial number before I order something online.

We went to Best Buy and picked up the Netgear WG111 and a Belkin WAP/4-port router (the WG111’s serial number started with 130, and the Tivo’s service number started with 540). I had some concerns about the Tivo recognizing the WG111, but once it finished its program update from 5.x to 7.5 (which took an hour or two), it found it up with no problem. The setup is pretty straightforward, though the clunky alphanumeric entry for the WEP key makes it very easy to make mistakes. You may also need to enter the SSID manually, but that may have been a problem only because we fumbled the WEP key initially.

That’s what and I gave to my folks this year. I think it will make them happy and fit pretty well with the way they watch TV … once they figure it out and get used to it. *grin*
In order to get it setup, we had about 25′ of phone cord strung across the living room, up to the balcony, to the nearest phone jack up in my dad’s study. They already have a wireless network at home, but we didn’t bring a USB wireless adapter with us and I found that the ones at Beast Buy, Circuit City, and Radio Shack all don’t work (either according to TiVo or found out first hand after buying yesterday). So the one last thing I need to do is order and ship a USB wireless adapter to them and walk them through setup over the phone. What wireless adapter did you guys use for your parents’ TiVo?
Glad you had a good trip to SC and the drive back wasn’t too bad!

Quite possibly! We opted for the $3.15-bend-over-for-more-tolls Skyway on the way in, and I’m glad we did – there was a small backup at the Ryan, but otherwise it was smooth sailing all the way home.

Yep, she’s a cockatoo. She’s also a mildly scary reptile with a built in pair of pliers, but she has been well behaved so far. She can be engaging and I can see the appeal of a bird like her, but I won’t be too sad to see her go. I’m just a mammal kind of guy.
