I know this separation has been really hard, and I’m so glad it’s come to a happy end.
We used something similar to ABF for our move out to California (you load it, they move it, you unload it, right?), and had generally good results. The one piece of advice I’ll offer is this: when they get to the destination city, they usually unload the stuff from the back of the truck first (the filler stuff packed in with yours–electronics, books, what-have-you), then deliver the trailer to you. That means there’s a stretch of time where they’re driving the trailer with only your stuff in it–so if your partition isn’t fastened in tightly, it’ll collapse and may allow your stuff to bang around in the trailer. That happened to us, and while it wasn’t a disaster, our futon frame was never the same afterward. 🙂 Use lots of nails, and you might consider roping your stuff in behind the partition as much as possible, too.
