Well, there’s two factors here:
Number one, I haven’t worked since October, 2002. There’s a big gaping hole on my resume and recruiters and prospective employers are asking, “What have you done during this time?” So getting a job, any job, is a Very Good Thing right now.
Number two, with the way our expenses have risen in North Carolina, we can live as cheaply in Chicago as a we can in NC. So with the exception of the cost of moving (and yes, that’s not inconsequential, but it’s manageable), the whole thing is pretty much a wash.
Additionally, that just because I’ll have a contract position doesn’t preclude me from continuing to look for a permanent position. This gives me the luxury to be a bit more picky (like sticking to the Chicago area) and wait for the right position to open up.
And finally, it saves the added expense of all the trips to Chicago between now and November! 🙂
