What the fuck?
How is using a common way of saying someone cussed a blue streak a slam against gays?
I could see myself saying what the spokesman said or very similar on some occasions, and I’m hardly anti-gay.
My version of it is usually “He wasn’t saying the Lords Prayer.”
I’m confused.

Oh well. No surprise there. I’m disgusted, to be sure, but hardly disappointed, given that I have no respect for administration anyway. Looking at the bright side, we always knew Bush’s people were just like he is. It’s good that they can’t hide it, so everyone can see that. Let’s get this bad garbage out in the open, and air it out, so we can discard it come November.
It’s time for a regime change in Washington! We just need to get the Nader supporters on board the stop-Bush express, too. The polls are so close that they can decide if Bush is re-elected or not simply by how they decide to vote: a “protest vote”, or a “lesser of two evils”. Again, the bright side: the rhetorical device that Nader used in saying that there is no difference between the two major parties is being shown a lie far better by the bullying of Republicans than any Democrat could ever argue eloquently.

What’s wrong with show tunes? I went to see the San Juan Community Singers do a revue of show tunes last night.
Oh.
I think the President doth protest too much. He never struck me as the pinnacle of masculinity anyway.
Maybe I should trade in my racer for a mountain bike.

I don’t think this was a bigoted statement. It’s more of an old-fashioned throwback to when show tunes were popular and people used to enjoy them the same way people do top 40 pop songs today. Saying he “wasn’t whistling show tunes” after the accident is like saying he “wasn’t dancing the Macarena” when that was the craze.
To me, it’s just an old fashioned way of saying he was hurting and wasn’t particularly happy about it. In fact, not “whistling show tunes” probably means that he was swearing like a sailor. 🙂

If the spokesman said that, it was pretty bad.
At least Bush didn’t blame the Secret Service agent, call him an SOB, and claim “I don’t fall.”

Couldn’t it also mean that even though he was not seriously hurt, he was not in a particularly good mood either, hence why he was not whistling show tunes? I know straight people who know more show tunes than I do. =Dp
