And, just to add to the confusion, there's always IBM Certified Used Notebooks if you're interested in economical ThinkPads. I just got finished updating a R32 ThinkPad for CCI. Sweet machine.

I was going to say…as if to mock you guys, Apple just released G4 iBooks.
In the PC world, both my oldest son and Innerwolf have gotten Dell Inspirons. They seem to be pretty OK. I think Cheetah was recommending Toshiba, and that’s what we use at work.
I don’t know if I can agree that Macs are always more expensive. A very useful iBook config can be had for $1250 ($1099 plus more RAM), and the Apple Store online does offer financing. If you spec out a machine, there is a “Find out how you can get your order for…” link at the bottom. If Taki really wants a Mac, what would it hurt to try out the instant online loan application?

You do know that Apple just released new iBooks, today. With G4 processors. $1100 will get you in.
But yeah, a Windows machine is cheaper. They alwasy are.
