Oh, and it looks better in an interview, when asked what you’ve been doing since being laid off in October of 2002, when you can say “I’ve been taking classes and keeping my job skills up to date” vs. “Well, I’ve been honing my skills on the PS2 and can finally defeat the chimera in Gauntlet: Dark Legacy” 🙂

To get a HACCP Coordinator certificate. The certificate is not really necessary, but it’s nice to have as a fallback if I wanted it. What it does get me is some kind of background in cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices), a sine qua non for anyone who wants to work in the food or pharmaceutical industries. I don’t expect that these classes alone will get me the foot in the door that I need, but it starts me down that road.
