AOL Trillian and Microsoft
I did download the patch immediately for my Trillian so I never had a problem there, but I did have a similar problem with Microsoft Update on January 27th that took out all of my non microsoft programming ....GRR it destroyed my recording studio !! GRR...but other than that it took me a few weeks before I was able to restore everything else. I do believe that there are two seperate problems here, and I disabled Microsoft Update so it doesn't harass me anymore.
I don't trust Bill Gates not to look out for his own interests and so this proves that I am not paranoid !

In reply to genet.

Damn, it's so hard to keep these evil empires straight. Makes sense, though. I'd just assumed that since it happened right after the update it was MS's fault, but it looks like it was just bad timing. Whatever - it's working now, that's all I care about.
I looked at the other chat clients out there when I was wondering if Trillian was hosed for good, it looks like Trillian's about the best there is. One day soon I'll go ahead and pick up Trillian Pro. I think it'd be worth the twenty-five bucks.

It actually wasn't Microsoft that broke it.
My trillian at work (NT4) and at home (Win2k) both went through the same thing. It's something that AOL broke.. if you have AIM contacts, as soon as they load, BOOM. Down goes the client.
So.. um.. yes. download the patch. :)
