Gee, can I be one of the Ninja's? Of course, I'd be too likely to spoil the surprise by giving him a massive foxy hug first.
By now, the operation should be well underway or done. I'm hoping the best for Dan and you.

Dan had a good idea last night. What should happen is that the doctor tells you that you're going to need surgery and that it will have to be sometime soon. Than, at some random time in the next few days, they send the ninja-orderlies out and they take you down with tranquelizer darts when you're not expecting it. Next thing you know, you wake up, and the surgery's over!
Hey, sounds like a great idea to me. Plus it will provide work for all the unemployed ninjas out there.

I will say lots of prayers for Dan...so that he isn't nervous...and so the doctor(s) will have steady hands.

STAND up for your rights, sistah! :) Frankly, I think you'd every right to put up a major fuss if they even considered harassing you for taking the day off.
I can fully understand the pre-surgery anticipation, having been through a similar experience with a loved one last summer. It got me thinking, though...if I were facing fairly serious surgery, I don't know if I'd be more comfortable with a run-up of well-wishers and special events, or by trying to think of it as just another event on the calendar. I often get a vibe from others that if they worry about the event, I'll worry about it even more in turn. But it's not easy for anyone involved to prepare or to show concern, not to mention the patient.
Hope things go well!

*hugs*
Take care, and I hope the surgery goes well. I can hardly blame you for taking the attitude that work can get stuffed, as if I was in your situation, I'd be the same way.
